Lovecrafts story of the same name.  It is associated with Cthulhu Mythos. There are characters who are detectives, criminals, scholars, artists, war veterans, etc. who travel across the world to known about the unknown mythos. It is "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." Most the game is taken place during the 1920's, but can also be during the 1000 A.D. or 23th Century.
