Hey all,

Bob, Todd, Larry and I are doing historic miniatures at Gnome Games East and my place in Appleton on a regular basis.  The games are good but the more the merrier!  We done everything from 1200AD to 1944 and have dabbled on land, sea and air.  I don't know if the blog accepts URLs or not, but this is the modest blog I've started with a report from our last game in Appleton.  http://campaignsinminiature.blogspot.com

Cheers,

Michael Mathews

What a night!  Last Night (8/29/2009)

Steve, Robert, Larry, a new guy,

and myself (Robert) got together and played Liftoff!

This boardgame is about racing to the moon!

It was a short game last night but I (Robert) was in the lead.

I was playing Europe (France) and they were doing quite well.

I would of had on turn 4 about

150 billion dollars to spend on research and equipment!

You can see more information about Liftoff in the DISCUSSION FORUM at this link - http://www.wargamerguild.com/guild/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=126

Well it was Open Gaming last night (8/22/2009)!

Steve brought some games along and we ended up playing Naval Battles!

Chuck was out 1st in the game due to John going after his ships!

Next who was out in the game was Michelle!   She did very well though!

Ahhhhhhh Ian!  He did very well !  He seemed to get alot of ships at first but

then he just got whomped on by John's ships and mine (Robert).

As I said Ian did well, but Steve was out next.  He had like 3 to 4 ships and

still kept around in the game until I took his ships out

Next was Ian!  I'll get you he said to me!

Of course one of his ship's knocked off one of my ship which was a 9 pointer!!!!

And then on the water it got quiet...

It was John's ships against mine.

In the end of the naval battle I (Robert) was the victor!

Thanks guys! it was fun to play!

Well, this past weekend (8/8/2009)...

Steve ran B-17 Bomber.  Bob, , John, Chuck, Michelle, Larry, Ian, Steve,

and myself (Robert) played 2 missions.

The 1st mission was a railyard that we had to bomb,

and the 2nd mission was a airfield.

I know Michelle's B-17 knocked down more German fighter

planes than anyone else!!!  way to go Michelle!!

I think we all had fun playing!  This was Ian's 1st time playing.

Ian showed his fast learning by doing things himself without anyone's 'help'.

John's B-17 went down on the 1st mission, but lasted until

he got home on the 2nd mission!

I think was John's 23 or 24th mission that his B-17 Bomber went down!

that is the news...

On Saturday Night, August 1, 2009

Larry, (new guy), Dale, Craig, Shane, and

myself (Robert) got together to play DBA!!

DBA is a 15mm tabletop miniature game.

It is a strategy & tactical game using miniatures that

are from 6500 BC to 175BC.  Or even a little earlier and later timeline!

Larry (Mongols) Vs. New Guy (??) .  Larry was the VICTOR!

Dale (Vedic Indians) Vs. Craig (Kelts?Celts), Craig was the VICTOR!

Dale (Alexandrian Macedonians) Vs. Shane (Kelts?Celts), Dale was the VICTOR!

Craig (Kelts?Celts) Vs. Robert (Burgundian), Robert was the VICTOR!

It was a pretty fun night everyone said,  who played DBA!

2009.07.26 23:46:51

as quite the night...Saturday night (7/25/2009)

Dale, Robert (Bob), Larry, another new guy, Chuck and,

myself (Robert) got together and played this outrageous fun game!

Bang The Bullet comes with the original Bang the card

game and also the expansion packs!

We played 4 to 5 games on Saturday night,

and the games were quite interesting!

Bob ended up being the Sheriff 2 times, and Chuck also!

Larry was the Sheriff once!

Often Dale and I would look at each other,

and it was cool that each one of us kind of 'knew' that each

other was whoever we were suppose to play as.

Such as I was playing the "Renegade" and Dale was playng the "Deputy".

It was quite interesting and was fun!!!

I think all in all everyone enjoyed the game!

You can see more about this game in the DISCUSSION FORUM - http://www.wargamerguild.com/guild/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=122

Well, instead of Steve being there to run World War I

Aviation (Wings Of War) his way, Craig, Bob, Larry,

Carol (Craig's wife), Reinhart, Shane, Chuck, and

myself (Robert) showed up to play.

There was one other guy who I think his name is John,

also played with the Axis side (Germans).

John did quite well for his 1st time playing Wings Of War.

It was quite a fun night where we all flown our planes,

and went after each other in the skywith our planes!

There were tailing and nearly drastic collisions of planes!

There were 3 games played and the Germans

came out ahead as the WINNER!  Way to go Germans!

p.s. Carol remember next time to bring your PINK two seater plane

In today's Gladiatoral FIGHT!! June 27, 2009

Steve once again ran Gladiators!  He used Habet Hoc Habet rules!

Dale, Larry, Craig, Bob, Chuck, Reinhart,  & Steve played in

this GRAND Gladiator GAME!   It was a team game this time,

and a fight to the death from what I understood.

It was Dale, Craig, Reinhart and Chuck on one team,

and Steve, myself (Robert), Larry, and Bob on the other team.

Steve's gladiators went after Craig's gladiators and killed

off both of his gladiators I think.

Larry's gladiators went after Chuck's single gladiator,

and killed him off right away!   Bob's gladiators went after

Reinhart's gladiators and that was QUITE THE BLOODY BATTLE!!!

My gladiators (Robert) went after Dale's gladiators,

and Dale's gladiators were left laying there in their blood and 'dying'.

So, the team I was on won the team GLADIATORAL ENGAGEMENT for the month!

Most of the winning Gladiator's will receive money for their

Lanista expenses and to buy other gladiators and buy items.

I'm sure most of the gladiator's will get experience too!

Until next month!!

2009.07.20 00:39:38

In this Naval engagement which took place during World War II,

there were a few players ready to play!!

Larry, and some new guy showed up to play!

Larry did well against his enemy!

Axis & Allies Naval ships are fun to play with and interesting to play!  There is an Axis & Allies map too!  Check it out!!

2009.07.20 00:32:29

Today, June 13, 2009...

Larry, who played as the Germans and Dale who played

as the British in a Naval engagement.

It was BLOODY!!!   Larry's fleet kept WHOMPING on Dale's fleet.

Dale did all he could to hit the GERMAN'S Fleet.

I think Dale was pretty much out numbered

before he even started the game.

Gladiators!

On Saturday, May 30, 2009 there was quite a few of us playing

Habet Hoc Habet.  Steve ran the game and it turned out

to be a fun and enjoyable game!

In our game that we were playing...we were fighting against the animals!

There were bears, lions, cheetah, and wolves.

Robert's gladiator got whomped on.  His gladiator's sword broke,

and his armor or shield was falling apart on him.  His gladiator seem to come

out GREAT though through all of the things happening to his gladiator.

Maybe his gladiator was lucky!

Most of us have our Lanista ready to go to fight against each other

in the months to come.  I (Robert) have 5 gladiators to go.

Most of us have 4 or 5 gladiators in our Lanista.

A Lanista is a building where gladiators learn to fight.

They are paid and get fed there too.

Check it OUT in the coming MONTHS!

I recommend Habet Hoc Habet to others who are looking for gladiator rules.

2009.06.05 07:16:52

It was a clear day and the fight went on between the Allies and Axis.

Larry, and Craig's wife (Carol?) were playing the Allies.

The rest of the Craig's family played the Axis.

Craig wasn't there due to work.

I saw a little of the game being played while Robert (Bob)

was running the game and told me that that

Larry's side was doing their best to knock out the Axis tanks.

To hear ...the Axis won that battle!

Flames of War is a World War II tabletop game.

It is a 15mm scale game using 15mm miniatures.

Better shooting next time Larry!

Star Trek RPG!

Steve last night (5/13/2009) brought up about Star Trek the role playing game.  He wants to start playing Star Trek the role playing game and asking a few of us if we wanted to play.  I (Robert) know that Chris from Gnome Games, and Preston might play, and myself (Robert) would play.  So basically there is 2 of us that would play!  Perhaps Steve would play too besides being the Guildmaster.

If you are interested in playing Star Trek RPG!  why don't you write to Steve (President of the Green Bay Wargamers Guild club).  You find the email address for Steve in the CONTACT webpage in the Main Menu.

Wings Of War
Wednesday (5/13/2009)...last night Chris, Preston and I
(Robert) played Wings Of War over at Gnome Games!
This was Prestons fist time playing Wings Of War,
and he said, 'I really enjoy this!".
It is much more fun than Dawn War!!
Chris did pretty well flying his plane around in
circles before he shot me down.
I (my plane) shot down Preston's planes (Hanriot,
and Spad XIII) due to I'm sure not knowing
the 'game' that well yet.
I would have to say Preston did well !
His plane was flying near and I think stayed away when he could.
We used the basic rules with the plane cards,
but modified the rules to allow plane to plane card attack &
middle of the plane card attack to other plane's middle,
no altitude, explosion card, A & B Damage decks,
and allowment of edge placement.
Thanks guys for playing!

Battle Of Mobile Bay!

Steve was the Wargamerguild Master on Saturday night (3/14/2009)

of American Civil War Naval Battle.  Specifically it was the Battle of Mobile Bay!

It was Chuck, Bob, Larry, and myself (Robert) as the Union players.

I had 6 ships to 'take care of', and Chuck had 4 ships and

Bob had 6 ships to take care of and Larry had 2 ships.

Dale was the Confederates!  He had sea shore batteries,

and a fort with shore batteries too!

I have to say those artillery units sure did the 'job' on the Union ships!

That is it for now!

Maybe some of you will leave comments about the game

or just have comments or questions!

Plague & Pestilence!

Well, last Saturday (February 29, 2009), Michelle, Steve, Bob, Chuck,

Larry, and myself (Robert)were playing Plague & Pestilence.

Now, this game is much more fun I think than Monty Python Flux!!!!

I recommend this GAME!  Go and Get IT!

The artwork for the cards is great!

and the OPENING GAME box is great!

NUCLEAR WAR!

This last Saturday, 2/28/2009...

Larry and I played Nuclear War!  It was fun.

Larry blew me up!

To find out Larry had some big numbers for population!

He had like 2 - 25,000 people.

I think Nuclear War was more fun than Monty Python Flux!
